AXE Body Spray: On February 10, 2010 the California Air Resources Board issued a $1.3 million fine to the distributors of AXE Body Spray (Conopco Inc. operating as Unilever) for contaminating California air with volatile organic compounds (VOCs) each time a young man sprayed himself with AXE. Between 2006 and 2008 the company sold 2.8 million products that failed to meet California’s clean air standards (Environmental News Service 2010).
